Through my lens, I’ve been lucky to witness milestones, quiet joys, and once-in-a-lifetime events, each one a story etched in time.
This year, I celebrated 20 years in photography, a milestone that brought new opportunities, challenges, and reasons to be grateful. From newborn yawns to joyous weddings and cozy family portraits, every session felt like a chapter in the story of 2024. Choosing just a few sessions to highlight is no easy task when every client brings their unique spark to a shoot. But a few moments stood out this year, leaving lasting impressions on my heart and in my portfolio.
A Cozy Newborn Session in Natural Tones
Newborn photography has always been close to my heart, and this year I captured a particularly special session that epitomized everything I love about this work. The session took place on a snowy morning in my studio, where I used warm, neutral tones to complement the baby’s delicate features. The little one slept peacefully, her tiny fingers curled around her mother’s. Each shot felt like a lullaby captured in an image—soft, serene, and full of love.
What made this session so memorable wasn’t just the photos themselves but the parents’ reaction. Seeing tears well up in a mother’s eyes as she views a photo of her baby for the first time is a reminder of why I do this.
A Maternity Session at Minnehaha Falls
This session combined the beauty of nature with the radiant glow of an expecting mother. Minnehaha Falls provided a stunning backdrop, with cascading water and lush greenery creating a frame of natural elegance. The mother-to-be was glowing, and her joy was infectious.
Saint Paul, my home base, has so many hidden gems for outdoor photography, and this location reminded me why I love this city. The final images captured her connection with nature and her excitement for the new chapter ahead.
Christmas Magic at the Cabin’ Mini Sessions
One of my biggest projects this year was transforming my studio into a cozy Christmas cabin for the holiday season. Creating the Nordic Christmas village scene, complete with hot chocolate, cookies, and twinkling lights, was a labor of love. Seeing families laugh, cuddle, and make memories in this festive setup was magical.
One session, in particular, stood out: a family of four, bundled in matching pajamas, giggling as their toddler explored the holiday village props. Every click of the shutter felt like capturing joy in its purest form.
A Dog Photography Session Honoring Onyx
This year, I began my journey into pet photography, a decision born from my love for dogs and the memory of my own beloved Onyx, who I lost to cancer. One of my favorite sessions involved capturing a rescue dog named Milo. His playful energy, floppy ears, and soulful eyes made for some unforgettable portraits.
This session reminded me how much pets mean to their families—they’re not just animals; they’re companions, healers, and part of the family. I can’t wait to expand this side of my business in 2025.

From creating online courses to running a weekly podcast and connecting with students across the country, this endeavor stretched me creatively and professionally. Hearing how my lessons have helped budding photographers grow their craft made every late night worth it.
Weather and the Unpredictable Outdoors
Outdoor sessions always come with an element of unpredictability. This year, a sudden rainstorm during a family session could have derailed the shoot, but instead, it gave us a unique opportunity to capture spontaneous moments of the family huddling under an umbrella. Growing Savvy Shutterbug
My photography education platform is just getting started. In 2025, I’ll be adding new courses, hosting workshops, and growing the Savvy Shutterbug Podcast. My goal is to help photographers of all levels build their skills and confidence, while sharing the real, unfiltered truth about what it takes to succeed in this business.
Weddings and Beyond
While I’ve expanded my offerings beyond weddings, I’m looking forward to capturing more love stories in the coming year. From intimate ceremonies to grand celebrations, there’s something magical about being part of such a momentous day.
