Many visitors opt to head to St. Croix Scenic Byway, a beautiful area that’s great for scenic drives and photo shoots. If it is too crowded for your liking, one other area you should check out is Downtown Stillwater.. This area is adorable and makes for some really fun and unique family photos. There are many shops and cute cafes that work well for backgrounds as well as the old architecture really gives a unique vibe to your photos.
Minneahaha Falls In Minneapolis
If you’re taking your Minnesota family photos in Minneapolis, you may want to head over to the falls at Minnehaha Park. This is a fantastic area for photo shoots because not only are these falls absolutely stunning, but you’ll also find that this location is very family-friendly. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, and there are also plenty of places to play and a great local spot to eat, called the Sea Salt Eatery. This is a wonderful place to take your kids that they’ll enjoy too, and you’ll have the added benefit of getting some wonderful photos along the way. This park also has a winding creek, several areas of wild flowers, an adorable house with white picket fences and a lot more. This really is one of my favorite places to photograph all kinds of photoshoots.
Holz Farm, Eagan MN

This is a unique and charming location that creates a wonderful backdrop for your photos, and you’ll love the fact that it’s also a very family-friendly place. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, and you’ll also find that there are plenty of play areas for your kids to enjoy.
Lebanon Hills In Eagan, MN
If you’re ready to take your Minnesota family photos in Eagan, you may want to consider heading to the Lebanon Hills. Make sure to inquire with the park first as permits are needed for photography sessions.
Theodore Wirth Scenic Drive
This drive is named for the architect who designed iconic skyscrapers like the Minnesota State Capitol and the Phoenix Hotel. Scenic drives are great for scenic shots of the countryside, but Theodore Wirth Drive also has some great photo spots.
Lyndale Peace Garden and Rose Garden
This is a beautiful garden located across the street from Lake Harriet. This spot is very popular for weddings and family photos. If it is too busy in the Peace Garden, you can head across the street and take amazing photos in the rose garden. Either area that you choose, you will still receive a beautiful setting for your family photos. Make sure to package a picnic so when you are down with your photos, you can head the lake and enjoy lunch and some sun.
Wabasha-Kellogg Mills Trailway State Trail
This trail follows the route of the Wabasha and the Kellogg Paper Mill’s ownership of the river. The forest along the route is full of great photo spots, and the trail is a great spot for hiking as well.
