Fall Is Coming—Let’s Capture It Together
Two children stand side by side outdoors on fallen leaves, with autumn trees in the background. The boy wears a white shirt and khaki pants; the girl wears a white sweater and jeans.

As the golden days of summer start to mellow into cooler evenings and the first hints of color brush the tops of Minnesota’s trees, it can only mean one thing—fall is just around the corner. And with it comes one of the most magical times of year for family photography.

Every year, I see fall sessions book earlier and earlier. It makes sense—this season is a favorite for so many families, and once the leaves begin to turn, it all happens fast. If you’ve been thinking about scheduling fall photos, now’s the time to plan. Let’s walk through why fall is the most popular season for photos, how to make the most of your session, and why August is actually the best time to reserve your spot.

Why Fall Is the Most Popular Season for Family Photos

Autumn in Minnesota is something special. The changing leaves, crisp air, and cozy light give us a backdrop that’s hard to match. Whether you’re envisioning a playful afternoon among the leaves or a more serene, golden-hour session, fall gives us a little bit of everything.

For many families, fall photos become part of their yearly rhythm—documenting growth, celebrating change, and making space for memories just before the rush of the holiday season. The colors, the textures, the warmth of a good snuggle in a sweater—it all feels like home. It’s a season of connection.

But popularity comes with one challenge: fall is also the most competitive time to get on the calendar. Weekend sessions fill first, and once the leaves hit their peak, we’re in a very narrow window. That’s why thinking ahead—yes, even in August—is one of the best things you can do.

Why Booking in August Gives You the Best Experience

I know—it still feels like summer. You’re soaking in those last swims, park days, and maybe even still on vacation. But trust me, August is the sweet spot for planning fall photos, and here’s why:

1. Best Date + Time Selection

By booking early, you’ll have access to the prime time slots—especially golden hour sessions that are ideal for lighting. Waiting until September might mean only midday slots or weekdays are left.

2. More Time to Prep Outfits

The earlier you book, the less rushed you’ll feel planning your family’s wardrobe. You can check out my What to Wear for Fall Photos Guide (coming soon!) and have time to order or try on pieces without last-minute stress.

3. Better Chance at Peak Color

Minnesota fall colors are unpredictable—they can peak anytime from late September to mid-October. Booking early lets us plan with more flexibility if we need to shift your date for the best scenery.

4. Beat the Holiday Rush

Fall sessions are also popular for holiday cards and gifts. Booking in August means you’ll have time to choose your images, order cards, and even plan prints or gifts well before December.

What Makes a Fall Session with Me Different

Fall is beautiful on its own—but what matters even more is how you feel in front of the camera. My approach to fall sessions is rooted in real connection, relaxed guidance, and making sure you feel completely at ease.

I’ll help you find the perfect location—whether you want woodsy trails, tree-lined paths, open fields, or urban corners with a hint of autumn. I scout my favorite spots in St. Paul and beyond every year to make sure the experience is seamless.

We’ll also chat ahead of time so you know exactly what to expect. You’ll get outfit planning tips, timing info, and a calm, confident space to enjoy your family during the session.

Fall 2025 Mini Sessions: Beneath the October Trees

This year, I’m offering a limited number of fall mini sessions called “Beneath the October Trees.” These will take place at one of my favorite tree-lined parks in St. Paul, where the colors are rich, the light is soft, and the setting feels timeless.

The setup is simple and natural—just you, the leaves, and real connection. I’ll be announcing dates and booking info next week, but newsletter subscribers and past clients will get first dibs.

➡️ Mini session early access begins August 15
➡️ Public booking opens August 19 (if any spots remain)

Sessions will take place on October 12 and October 19, with golden hour timing available.

Full Fall Sessions Are Booking Too!

If you prefer a longer session with more location flexibility and variety, I also offer full-length fall photo sessions throughout September and October. These are perfect for families who want a slower pace, more images, or a session customized around a specific location, milestone, or story.

Let’s Make This Fall One to Remember

Whether it’s your baby’s first fall or your teen’s last year at home before college, these sessions are about more than just pretty pictures. They’re a moment to pause, breathe, and document the season of life you’re in—before the next one begins.

And you don’t have to stress about making it perfect. Come as you are. I’ll guide you through the rest.

Let’s capture the warmth, the laughter, and the moments you’ll want to hold onto for years to come.
