Photo Restoration

Bringing damaged, faded, and deteriorating original photographs back to life

By Giliane E. Mansfeldt Photography

Restore Your Irreplaceable Photographs

Some photographs exist only once. There is no digital backup, no second copy tucked away somewhere. Just the original print — faded, torn, water-stained, or slowly disappearing — and the memory it carries.

Photo restoration is the work of recovering what’s still there and returning it to something that can be held, framed, and passed on. Every original that comes through this studio is handled with the same care we would want someone to give our own family’s photographs.

If you have a damaged print you’re not sure about, start with an evaluation. If you already know what you need, the services below will walk you through your options.

Working with film negatives or slides instead of prints? Those are handled as a separate dedicated service — Film, Negatives & Slides →

Expert Photo Restoration

We restore:

  • Torn or physically damaged prints
  • Water and flood damaged photographs
  • Fire and smoke damaged photographs
  • Faded or discolored prints
  • Photographs with mold or foxing
  • Stuck, peeling, or damaged album prints
  • Scratched or abraded surfaces
  • Old portraits with missing sections or faces
  • Photographs damaged by improper storage or handling

How It Works

Bring or mail your original photograph to our studio. We assess the damage in person and provide a written restoration plan and confirmed price before any work begins. Your original is handled with archival care throughout the process and returned to you along with your restored print. You never have to choose between keeping your original and having a print you can actually use.

Pricing

Exact pricing is confirmed before work begins. No surprises. Choose your restoration service below:

Restoration Evaluation

$45

Initial assessment of your photo’s condition

For photographs you’re unsure about. Bring or mail in your original print and receive a written assessment of its condition, what’s causing the damage, and what restoration would realistically involve. Limited to one photograph. If you move forward with restoration within 30 days, this fee is applied as a credit toward your project.

Photo Restoration

Starting at $150 per photo

Restore a single photo to its original glory

For torn, faded, water-damaged, fire-damaged, or deteriorating original photographs. Includes careful handling of your original throughout the entire process, full hand-done digital restoration, and a professional archival print of the finished result. Your original is returned to you along with the restored print. Final pricing depends on damage severity and confirmed before work begins.

Restoration with Reprint Set

Starting at $225 per photo

Restore and receive reprints of your photo

For families who want extra copies once a photo is restored — for siblings, for framing, for sharing. Includes everything in Photo Restoration plus a set of three additional prints in your choice of size. Sizing and finish discussed before production.

Restoration & Framing

Starting at $275 per photo

Complete restoration with framing service

For photographs meant to be displayed, not stored. Includes full restoration, a professional archival print, and framing suited to the photograph and its history. This is the service for the photo that belongs on the wall — not back in the box it came from.

Multi-Photo Restoration Project

Starting at $695

Restore multiple photos at once

For families with several damaged originals from the same collection — a set of wedding photographs, a parent’s childhood album, a generation of family portraits. Includes a planning consultation, restoration of multiple photographs, and coordinated presentation as matching prints, a shared album, or a framed set. Final scope and pricing confirmed after reviewing your collection.

What Restoration Can and Cannot Do

Photo restoration recovers what remains in your original image. Severely damaged areas—such as missing, burned, or destroyed sections—may sometimes be reconstructed based on context, but this is always discussed openly before any work begins. We never exaggerate what is possible, and you will always receive a clear explanation of what to expect before making any decisions.

We believe in honesty and transparency. You will always know exactly what is possible before you commit to restoration.
