Choosing the right colors for your newborn session can seem like a daunting task. There are so many shades and hues to choose from! Here I’m going to break down some of the guidelines you should follow when deciding on what colors to use, in order to make the process much easier. Let’s get started!

Choosing Colors For Your Newborn Session

When it comes to choosing colors for your newborn session, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you want to choose colors that will compliment your baby’s skin tone. Second, you want to choose colors that will be timeless and won’t go out of style. And lastly, you want to choose colors that will make your baby stand out in the photos.

Another item to decide if you want your session to have a warm or cool feel. Warm colors like yellow, orange, and red will create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Cool colors like blue, green, and purple will give your session a calming and serene feeling.

Once you’ve decided on the overall tone, you can start to narrow down your color choices. If you want your photos to have a bright and cheerful feel, consider using primary colors like red, yellow, and blue. For a more subdued look, try using softer pastel shades.

For a baby with fair skin, try pastel colors like pale pink or blue. For a baby with olive skin, try earth tones like cream or light brown. And for a baby with dark skin, try rich jewel tones like purple or green.

Once you’ve decided on the perfect color scheme for your baby, it’s time to start thinking about what props and accessories you’ll use. Again, you’ll want to choose items that complement your chosen colors and will make your photos look classic and timeless. A few ideas include using a simple white blanket as a backdrop, adding in some greenery for a pop of color, or using neutral-colored stuffed animals as props.

Color Theory

What is color theory?

Color theory is the study of color and its effects on human perception. It is a branch of the decorative arts, that deals with the design and application of color. The major goal of color theory is to understand how colors interact with each other and how they can be used to create specific effects.

What colors compliment each other

When it comes to choosing colors for your home, it’s important to consider what colors compliment each other. This color theory guide will help you create a color scheme that is both stylish and functional.

First, decide what type of mood you want to create in your space. Do you want a calm and serene atmosphere or a lively and vibrant one? Once you’ve decided on the overall mood, you can start to select specific colors.

If you want a calm space, stick to cool colors like blue, green, and purple. If you want a more energetic space, choose warm colors like red, orange, and yellow. You can also mix cool and warm colors to create a balance between the two.

Once you’ve selected your main colors, you can start to add in accent colors. These are colors that are used sparingly to add visual interest. Accent colors can either be complementary to your main colors or contrasting. Complementary colors are ones that are directly across from each other on the color wheel (e.g., blue and orange). Contrasting colors are those that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel (e.g., yellow and purple).

Why is Color Theory Important in Newborn Photography

Color theory is important for a number of reasons. First, understanding the basics of color can help you create more visually appealing photograph. Second, by understanding how colors interact with each other, you can create more harmonious color schemes. Finally, color theory can help you understand the psychological effects of color and how to use color to create the desired mood or feeling in your photographs.

Mixing and Matching Colors

One thing to keep in mind is that newborns photograph best in soft light. This means that you’ll want to avoid using any colors that might make your baby look washed out or pale. Instead, opt for softer shades that will compliment their delicate features.

Another thing to consider is the overall tone of the session. If you’re looking for something warm and inviting, then rich earth tones or pastels might be the way to go. On the other hand, if you want something a little more playful, then brighter colors could work well.

Ultimately, there’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to choosing colors for your newborn session. The most important thing is to mix and match different shades until you find a combination that you love.

What Colors Are my Favorite?

There are a lot of newborn photographers that have different thoughts on what colors work best for newborn photography. I am going to share with you my favorite colors to use for your newborn session!

There are so many different colors that can be used for a newborn session, but which ones are my favorites? I tend to gravitate towards softer, pastel colors for newborns. I love how they look against baby’s skin and always seem to look so peaceful in photos. My go-to colors for newborns are blush, light greys, greens, lighter browns and cream. But I also love incorporating other colors into the mix, like blue or lavender. And of course, you can never go wrong with classic black and white photos!

If you are looking for something a little more unique, you can also try incorporating some green into your newborn session. I find that green is a very calming color and it helps to create a serene atmosphere in the image.  No matter what colors you choose for your newborn session, make sure that they compliment each other and create a pleasing overall effect.

Choosing colors for your newborn session can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be! By keeping a few simple tips in mind, you can narrow down your choices and pick the perfect colors for your baby’s photos.
